Job description

The Material Flow & Automation team at Tesla is seeking a senior engineer to lead technical projects involving the design, deployment, and support of robotic systems for material handling in automotive manufacturing. The role encompasses project management from concept to handover, requiring collaboration with suppliers and cross-functional teams to ensure successful integration and operation of robotic cells.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of experience with industrial robot programming, commissioning, simulation, project leadership, machine design, moving mechanisms component, part design, machined part processes
  • Experience with Fanuc robots offline programming, vision systems, end of arm tool design, factory implementation and controls integration
  • CAD proficiency (Solidworks preferred)
  • Preferred knowledge of material handling in automotive manufacturing and machine vision
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, work in manufacturing environments with noise, moving equipment and temperature variation, and occasionally lift up to 25 kg

Responsibilities

  • Design robotic cells for material flow conveyance storage and repack systems
  • Create simulations and offline programs using Fanuc Roboguide
  • Program, commission and troubleshoot Fanuc robots with DCS, iRVision and custom code
  • Design end of arm tools and robot safety systems
  • Lead projects from concept through supplier management, design, validation and handover
  • Provide technical leadership and troubleshooting support during deployment
  • Coordinate with vendors, cross functional teams and operations on timelines, budgets and documentation
