Job description
Tesla is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer responsible for managing supplier quality, conducting failure analysis, and driving continuous improvement in component development. The role involves effective communication with internal and external teams to ensure high-quality components are delivered on time, while implementing lean manufacturing principles.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of component or assembly plant experience supporting Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or similar in supplier quality, supplier development, process, quality, or manufacturing engineering role knowledge
- Experience in Electronic Top Level Assembly (TLA) or PCBA (SMT) manufacturing processes or Low and/or High voltage power electronic systems and/or distribution
- PPAP/APQP processes, advanced working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T), Lean Manufacturing
- Specific training and demonstrated success in applying quality problem solving methods such as fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, 8D
- Quality systems experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive preferred)
- Ability to communicate and direct supplier activities to management & executive level
- Ability to define and execute a project using project management techniques
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Responsibilities
- Drive supplier accountability for part quality issues impacting production by managing and ensuring closure for supplier corrective actions
- Lead cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues related to Tesla electronics commodity vendors
- Engage with suppliers on developing short-term containment actions and long-term corrective actions to quality issues
- Responsible for Supplier Quality Performance at the factory, supporting data collection/analysis to identify failure trends
- Set priorities for suppliers based on performance and business needs, developing positive relationships with the Supply Chain Team
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, part quality, and overall efficiency
