Job description

The role is part of the DCGPU Platform Power Design Team at AMD, focusing on designing high-technology platforms for AMD's Instinct Graphics Processing Units. The team is responsible for architecting and shaping graphics boards while developing cutting-edge power converters to meet stringent performance demands. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on problem solver who thrives in a dynamic environment, balancing innovation with practical design execution. Collaboration across functions and mentoring junior engineers are key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field is required, M.S. preferred.
  • Proven technical understanding of power supply architectures and PDN in server, OAM, and PCIe environments.
  • Experience with multi-phase buck/buck-boost regulators, digital PWM controllers, bus converters, LDOs, PMICs, charge pumps, ADCs & DACs.
  • Working knowledge of 2D/2.5D EM simulation tools such as Sigrity’s PowerDC, PowerSI, SiWave or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of high frequency magnetics design for power electronics.
  • Printed circuit board design experience is a must.
  • Expertise in schematic capture and PCB design tools such as OrCAD or Allegro.
  • Excellent knowledge of control theory, closed loop compensation, stability analysis, and phase margin.
  • Proficiency with lab equipment such as oscilloscope, eload, and function generator.
  • Experience with analog circuit modeling and simulation tools like Simplis, PSpice, or HSpice.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of AMD’s SVIx power management interface.

Responsibilities

  • Support the architecture, design, analysis, and verification of power systems for high performance CPUs/GPUs/APUs.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to design and implement a full power delivery network.
  • Model and validate PDN impedance and droop targets.
  • Verify power supply integrity using lab and in-situ silicon measurements.
  • Guide the system’s design team to provide optimum component selection and detailed layout guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Board Validation team to develop test plans and procedures for system-level validation.
  • Work with SoC and System Architects to drive the latest power delivery technologies.
  • Analyze and compare solutions to drive team insights and architecture forward.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and collaborate with development teams to deliver solutions.
  • Mentor junior power engineers and verify their design and validation work.

Benefits

  • AMD provides a competitive 'Total Rewards' package that focuses on financial growth, health, and work-life balance.
