Job description

The Controls Engineer will join the Night Shift team at Cummins Inc. in York, SC, focusing on the development and refinement of control systems for manufacturing. This role involves ensuring reliable control system designs and improving system performance through testing and troubleshooting. The engineer will also support financial decisions and provide technical analysis to enhance engineering decision-making. A strong emphasis is placed on collaboration, communication, and safety excellence within the manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • A college degree in STEM or a related field, or equivalent experience is required.
  • Basic level of relevant experience is required.
  • Good understanding of troubleshooting related to electronic controls, Ignition, MES, IT issues, and automation is necessary.
  • Knowledge about automation, robots, and safety requirements is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to reliable control system designs by supporting the development and refinement of control architectures.
  • Improve system performance through rigorous bench testing and validation of control logic, sensors, and actuators.
  • Ensure hardware and software operate to specification by modifying configurations and resolving performance gaps.
  • Accelerate issue resolution by troubleshooting and debugging basic control system problems.
  • Support informed financial decisions by preparing cost estimates and drafting clear appropriation requests.
  • Develop practical solutions by investigating project requirements and proposing plans considering various constraints.
  • Strengthen engineering decision-making by providing accurate technical analysis and recommendations.
  • Enable successful PLC-based implementations by assisting with installation and ongoing technical support.
