Job description

The Mechanical / Opto-Mechanical Engineer will lead initiatives aimed at reducing energy consumption and optimizing purge gas usage in advanced semiconductor equipment. This role combines physics-based modeling, optical and mechanical system design, and experimental validation to enhance tool efficiency while ensuring performance and reliability. The engineer will work closely with a team of experts to develop innovative solutions that address complex challenges in the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. The position requires a strong background in mechanical design and fluid dynamics.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical or opto-mechanical system design.
  • Strong experience with CFD and thermal modeling tools such as ANSYS Fluent and COMSOL.
  • Experience in mechanical design (CAD) and tolerance analysis.
  • Understanding of gas flow dynamics and contamination control.
  • Knowledge of optical system sensitivity to environmental factors.

Responsibilities

  • Develop multi-physics models to analyze gas flow behavior and purge efficiency.
  • Simulate purge gas distribution and consumption to identify reduction opportunities.
  • Design and optimize opto-mechanical assemblies to reduce reliance on purge gases.
  • Collaborate with optics, systems, and process engineers to ensure performance integrity.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate modeling predictions.
  • Drive initiatives to reduce purge gas consumption and overall tool energy usage.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to contribute to system-level architecture decisions.

Benefits

  • Employees at KLA are often offered competitive pay with bonuses, a 401(k) match, an employee stock purchase program, and financial perks like student-debt assistance, planning support, and group insurance discounts. Health and lifestyle benefits typically include medical/dental/vision, life and other voluntary coverages, paid time off and holidays, family leave, backup care, wellness rewards, gym discounts, and community-volunteering opportunities. Employees also get strong growth support through tuition reimbursement, KLA’s corporate learning center, education awards, and engineering certification programs.
