Job description

The Senior Staff Optical Design Engineer will join the Broadband Plasma Division at KLA to develop innovative wafer inspection products. This role focuses on the design process of optical subsystems, which are critical for the performance of BBP products. The engineer will provide technical leadership and collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to meet optical performance requirements. The position requires a strong background in optics and a commitment to solving complex problems in semiconductor manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree with 5 years of related work experience, Master's degree with 8 years of experience, or Bachelor's degree with 12 years of experience.
  • Solid background in optics, physics, or related fields.
  • Hands-on experience in lens design, particularly in diffraction limited large numerical aperture microscope objective lenses.
  • Proficiency in Code V or Zemax and Matlab or Python.
  • Experience in developing optical alignment, error budgets, and metrology for high precision optical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own and investigate optical architecture and design options to optimize performance metrics, costs, and schedules.
  • Collaborate with external suppliers and internal teams to gather optical performance dependencies.
  • Translate system requirements into optical, mechanical, and metrology requirements.
  • Develop and implement optical metrology and alignment concepts to achieve targeted optical performances.
  • Follow KLA design processes, including design reviews, part procurement, testing, integration, and release.

Benefits

  • Employees at KLA are often offered competitive pay with bonuses, a 401(k) match, an employee stock purchase program, and financial perks like student-debt assistance, planning support, and group insurance discounts. Health and lifestyle benefits typically include medical/dental/vision, life and other voluntary coverages, paid time off and holidays, family leave, backup care, wellness rewards, gym discounts, and community-volunteering opportunities. Employees also get strong growth support through tuition reimbursement, KLA’s corporate learning center, education awards, and engineering certification programs.
