Job description

The Mechanical Design Engineer at KLA is responsible for developing innovative mechanical design solutions that meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements. This role involves collaboration across engineering disciplines and spans the full product lifecycle from requirements definition to manufacturing release. The position is part of the Film and Scatterometry Technology Division, which provides metrology solutions for semiconductor manufacturers. The engineer will tackle design challenges including precision design and ultra-high vacuum design.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree with 5+ years of related work experience, or a Master's degree with 8+ years, or a Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of experience.
  • In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, sheet metal forming, and 3D printing.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of precision machine design.
  • Solid understanding of statics, mechanics of materials, fluid flow, and heat transfer.
  • Experience in 3D solid modeling, preferably with Creo or Solidworks.

Responsibilities

  • Drive requirement specification and conduct feasibility studies.
  • Perform conceptual and detailed design, including detailed drawings using 3D solid modeling.
  • Conduct various analyses such as fluid, thermal, vibrational, and FEA modeling.
  • Understand and apply Geometric Tolerancing (GD&T) and perform detailed tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Hold design reviews throughout the design process and procure prototype parts.
