The Mechanical Engineering Manager at Amazon Web Services will lead the Central Regions mechanical design group, focusing on the design and innovation of data centers. This role involves managing a team of engineers responsible for mechanical design, construction, operations, and maintenance of global data centers. The position requires collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with design standards and local codes. The team aims to enhance safety, security, and efficiency in data center operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5 years managing a team of engineers.
- Cumulative 10+ years of experience in design engineering or the construction industry related to Mechanical systems.
- Licensed Mechanical Engineer with experience applying local codes and industry standards.
- Strong knowledge of ICC Codes and Mechanical industry standards.
- Experience with construction of data centers or large-scale mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and understand construction documents for all trades.
- Experience with design review processes and specification development.
- Experience with performance-based alternatives to prescriptive Mechanical design.
- Strong business analytics skills.
Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design group and coordinate with internal and external teams.
- Drive improvement of design standards and project approaches across the organization.
- Coordinate with third-party design vendors to ensure compliance with design standards.
- Provide high-quality Mechanical engineering advice on global projects.
- Coordinate with construction, commissioning, and risk management teams.
- Ensure compliance with construction documents, code requirements, and design standards.
- Meet with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to ensure approval of Mechanical features.
- Prepare detailed designs for HVAC, plumbing, and hydronic systems.
- Review mechanical and plumbing drawings for code compliance.
- Serve as the point of escalation for technical mechanical and plumbing systems.
