The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will be part of a global data center engineering team at AWS, focusing on the design and continuous innovation of mechanical systems within data centers. This role emphasizes collaboration with diverse teams, including software, hardware, and network engineers, to ensure high standards of safety and security. The engineer will drive advancements in reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of engineering designs. This position is available in Seattle, Washington or Herndon, Virginia.
Requirements
- 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission critical facilities such as data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for the region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
Responsibilities
- Work in a cross-disciplinary setting with the ability to influence and drive others.
- Advise peer engineers and the management team.
- Perform deep-dive root cause analysis.
- Make technical trade-offs between short-term project goals and long-term business needs.
- Develop integrated systems extending the life of data center infrastructure products.
- Simplify, optimize, and lower costs of data center mechanical and associated sub components.
- Collaborate with internal and external ecosystem partners to design and develop new data center product solutions.
- Support field engineering and data center operation teams in performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
- Leverage economy of scale through standardization and modularization of data center products.
- Provide technical subject matter expertise to peers, senior management, and partner teams.
- Develop business justification and narratives to promote new concepts and ideas.
- Lead key initiatives for the organization while demonstrating complete ownership.
- Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical and associated sub components.
- Provide product design support to other team members.
- Write functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
- Travel domestically and internationally for up to 25% of the year.
