The Controls Integration Engineer is responsible for the on-site deployment, integration, and commissioning of automated material handling equipment. This role requires hands-on execution and technical expertise in managing Industrial PCs, PLCs, and industrial networks. The engineer works closely with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure systems are installed and tested according to project standards. The position also involves troubleshooting and providing technical support during the commissioning phases.
Requirements
- Experience with networking fundamentals including hands-on experience with load balancers, switches, and routers.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% for on-site commissioning and deployment support.
- Hands-on experience with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, EtherCAT, or Modbus TCP.
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, or Ruby.
- Familiarity with object-oriented programming concepts in an IEC 61131-3 environment.
- Experience supporting large-scale commissioning projects such as automated warehouses or complex manufacturing environments.
Responsibilities
- Execute on-site commissioning activities for sorters, conveyors, and automated work cells.
- Provision, configure, and validate Linux-based IPCs, PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, and field devices per project standards.
- Diagnose and resolve industrial networking problems including IP conflicts and VLAN issues.
- Troubleshoot PLC logic, device configuration, and system-level faults across electrical, controls, and mechanical boundaries.
- Provide day-to-day technical direction to technicians and commissioning support personnel during system deployment.
- Validate equipment functionality against design specifications and operational requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve commissioning efficiency, reliability, and repeatability.
