The Senior Systems Engineer role at AWS focuses on balancing day-to-day operations of AWS software systems with long-term engineering projects to reduce operational toil. The AWS Managed Operations (MO) organization aims to improve the reliability, performance, and efficiency of AWS Regions. Candidates will work within the AWS Utility Computing (UC) team, supporting the development and management of various services. This position emphasizes continuous learning and collaboration to enhance operational excellence.
Requirements
- 8+ years of relevant systems engineering or systems administration experience using Operating Systems, networking, and storage systems.
- 5+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Enterprise Production in Windows/Linux environments.
- 3+ years of experience operating in a 24/7 production environment.
- 3+ years of experience with a scripting language such as Perl, Python, Ruby, or PowerShell.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 6+ years of networking experience.
- 6+ years of experience with support procedures and methodologies for production computing environments.
- Experience with Agile engineering practices such as Scrum and continuous delivery.
Responsibilities
- Balance day-to-day operations with long-term software engineering efforts.
- Support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps services.
- Drive security, availability, performance, and efficiency improvements for AWS Regions.
- Remove operational toil through automation to enhance day-to-day operations.
- Collaborate with service teams to build resilience and reliability into products.
