Job description

The role involves building next-generation hyper-scale distributed systems for Amazon Redshift, a managed petabyte-scale data warehouse service. The team focuses on foundational data systems that ensure reliability and performance at scale. Engineers will tackle complex problems related to data storage architecture, durability, and performance optimization. The position requires a strong understanding of distributed systems and offers opportunities for mentorship and career growth.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 1+ years of experience as a software development engineer or in a related role
  • 1+ years of experience designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded, or distributed software applications
  • 1+ years of experience with Object Oriented Design
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • 3+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle

Responsibilities

  • Innovate architecture that addresses scalability, reliability, and performance for large-scale distributed systems.
  • Design and develop core storage and metadata that operate reliably at petabyte scale.
  • Solve large-scale, high-complexity problems spanning data durability, availability, consistency, and performance.
  • Debug deep, cross-cutting issues that require understanding the full stack from query planning to distributed storage.
  • Drive performance improvements in storage I/O paths, metadata access patterns, and in-memory caching.
  • Improve reliability and durability guarantees through resilient system design and automated recovery.
  • Mentor and grow junior engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance.
  • Raise the bar on operational excellence by building deep observability and reducing operational toil.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
