·FY 2025Job description
The Senior Hardware Engineer (Mechanical) will lead the mechanical design and integration of an autonomy solution into Amazon's last-mile delivery ecosystem, focusing primarily on delivery vans. This role involves owning the mechanical systems necessary for the safe and efficient integration of sensors and compute hardware into vehicles. The engineer will work closely with various teams to translate operational requirements into scalable mechanical designs. A strong emphasis will be placed on balancing robustness, cost, serviceability, and manufacturability in a high-volume logistics environment.
Requirements
- Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
- Experience with the project management of technical projects.
Responsibilities
- Integrate LiDAR, radar, cameras, GNSS/IMU, and compute hardware into the vehicle structure while optimizing for each sensor's performance requirements.
- Translate operational and autonomy requirements into clear mechanical requirements, tolerances, and design constraints.
- Partner with electrical, firmware, sensors, and vehicle engineering teams to ensure end-to-end system integration.
- Drive designs through concept, prototyping, validation, and production, including DFMEA, tolerance analysis, and environmental testing.
- Generate 3D CAD models, detailed drawings with GD&T, and complete BOM documentation.
- Support prototype builds, vehicle integration, and fleet validation testing.
- Conduct vibration, shock, durability, and environmental validation testing.
- Ensure solutions meet safety, ergonomics, and regulatory requirements, including vehicle and workplace safety standards.
- Optimize designs for cost, manufacturability, durability, and ease of maintenance at fleet scale.
- Support pilot deployments and field testing, rapidly iterating designs based on real-world feedback from drivers and operations teams.
Benefits
- Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
