Job description

The Amazon Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) Data Services organization is seeking a Language Engineer to enhance natural language processing and machine learning capabilities. This role involves collaborating with product managers, engineers, and data scientists to align AI systems with human policies. The Language Engineer will focus on dataset construction, linguistic annotation, and the automatic processing of large datasets. The position requires a strong background in computational linguistics and experience in handling language data across multiple languages.

Requirements

  • Master's or higher degree in a relevant field such as computational linguistics or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in computational linguistics or language data processing.
  • Experience with language annotation and other forms of data markup.
  • Experience with scripting languages, particularly Python.
  • Experience working with speech and text language data in multiple languages.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong organizational abilities.
  • PhD in Computational Linguistics or equivalent field with computational emphasis is preferred.
  • Experience in writing grammars and building finite state transducers (FSTs).
  • Familiarity with database queries and data analysis processes such as SQL, R, or Matlab.

Responsibilities

  • Design data collection and creation tasks in response to scientific needs.
  • Analyze and extract language-related insights from large datasets.
  • Build tools or prototypes for data analysis or data authoring using Python or other scripting languages.
  • Collaborate with scientists and software engineers to evaluate the performance of language models.
  • Handle competing requests from various data customers.
  • Provide day-to-day coordination of data collection efforts, including planning, scheduling, and reporting.
