Job description

The Data Center Chief Engineer (CE) role at AWS involves ensuring the peak efficiency of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center. This position is part of a dedicated team that maintains critical infrastructure, ensuring 100% availability while delivering first-class customer service. The CE will work closely with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians and third-party vendors, focusing on both routine and emergency services. This role emphasizes leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to safety and efficiency in a diverse and inclusive environment.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience with Microsoft Office products and applications
  • 3+ years of experience in mission critical facilities including industrial electrical and mechanical systems
  • Experience with reading and writing procedures, technical documents, and engineering drawings
  • 2+ years of computer hardware experience, including troubleshooting and repairing experience
  • Experience in technical writing in a relevant field
  • Certification in an applicable field like A+, Net+, Sec+, CCNA, LPIC, Linux+, AWS certification, or CND

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the DCEO Engineering Team
  • Establish performance benchmarks and conduct analyses on critical facility operations
  • Oversee the management of shift technicians, senior shift technicians, sub-contractors, and vendors
  • Manage routine and emergency services on critical systems such as switchgear and generators
  • Plan and report on data center capacity
  • Assist in the design and build-out of new facilities
  • Coordinate projects with IT managers and business leaders to optimize safety and performance
  • Ensure quality service and meet all customer demands
  • Manage asset and inventory effectively
  • Respond to out-of-hours emergency calls as the first level escalation point
  • Train and develop Engineering Operations Technicians including night shift personnel
