The role involves joining a diverse team of environmental professionals at AWS, focusing on environmental permitting and compliance to support the growth of AWS data centers globally. The team is responsible for architecting and implementing environmental programs, ensuring compliance with regulations, and engaging with various stakeholders. The position requires collaboration with multiple teams and external agencies to develop and execute environmental strategies. A successful candidate will have a strong background in environmental due diligence and permitting.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, or related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience delivering multi-media environmental due diligence, permitting, and compliance for existing sites and new development.
- 7+ years experience conducting environmental due diligence for greenfield and brownfield sites, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.
- At least 3 years of project or task management experience for environmental permitting and/or due diligence projects.
- Experience in permitting within multiple states within the southwestern US, preferably in CA, NV, AZ, NM.
- Data center or critical infrastructure due diligence, design, construction, and/or risk assessment experience strongly preferred.
- Experience managing and/or supporting community/public interactions.
Responsibilities
- Assess environmental risks and requirements and develop mitigations and strategies to support data center siting and development strategies.
- Lead technical aspects of environmental due diligence, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.
- Deliver environmental permits, approvals, and plans to enable on-time and compliant construction and operations for new data center locations.
- Communicate environmental requirements, risks, and activities to internal and external project partners.
- Coordinate with partner teams to optimize site designs considering natural resource or operational constraints.
- Develop site development and permitting strategies that are environmentally responsible and sustainable.
- Lead regulatory agency interactions and negotiations in support of environmental permit acquisition.
- Develop detailed compliance plans for environmental permits.
- Develop, manage and track metrics to evaluate project success and compliance status.
