Job description

The Regional Environmental Engineer (REE) at AWS is responsible for ensuring environmental compliance at data centers in North Carolina. This role involves developing standards and policies to support regulatory compliance while fostering an environmentally responsible culture within the organization. The REE will work closely with various stakeholders, including government entities and contractors, to manage compliance and drive continuous improvement in environmental performance. The position is part of a dynamic team that supports AWS's growth and sustainability goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience as an environmental compliance specialist
  • Experience developing and implementing environmental compliance programs including regulated waste, water, and air regulations
  • Experience in project management in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure
  • Experience in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, service operations, or related fields
  • Experience in MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Experience in projects in North Carolina or other Southern States

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee compliance with environmental regulations and Amazon policy
  • Drive an environmentally responsible culture within the organization
  • Ensure work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees is completed in accordance with Amazon standards
  • Develop environmental metrics to measure, monitor and forecast performance
  • Conduct thorough and accurate environmental audits for continuous improvement
  • Prioritize and manage multiple technically complex assignments concurrently
  • Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with governmental agencies and throughout the company
  • Build collaborative relationships with various stakeholders to ensure risks are identified early and managed appropriately
  • Assist in time-critical compliance report submission to various governmental agencies
  • Complete thorough and accurate environmental incident investigations and associated regulatory reports and develop appropriate corrective action
