Job description

This role involves managing the design, planning, and implementation of fiber optic and structured cabling systems for AWS global infrastructure. You will work within a diverse team of engineers and specialists to ensure high standards of safety and security while optimizing network performance. The position focuses on automating processes, developing standards, and driving improvements in network architecture. You will also engage with vendors and internal teams to deliver impactful solutions for AWS customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience on fiber plant design and network design or 10+ years of experience in structured cabling design, deployment, and maintenance for large-scale data centers
  • 5+ years of experience with fiber plant design and IEEE standards
  • 2+ years of experience working with optical protocols and technologies
  • Expertise in industry standards such as ANSI/TIA, BICSI and other relevant structured cabling guidelines
  • Proven ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams and external vendors on large-scale projects
  • Strong skills in reviewing and interpreting technical drawings, cable schedules, and documentation management

Responsibilities

  • Manage vendors and manufacturers to assess new fiber optic and passive infrastructure designs.
  • Automate fiber test plans and qualify fiber connectivity designs.
  • Design and specify structured cabling systems for network layers at hyperscale data centers.
  • Develop standards, reference designs, and installation guidelines for physical network deployments.
  • Focus on ambiguous problem areas in existing or new network architecture and propose impactful projects.
  • Drive discussions with customers and peers, influencing team strategy.
  • Partner with internal network engineering and site operations teams to align physical design with logical architecture.
  • Manage fiber vendors and contractors, performing quality control and commissioning of cabling systems.
  • Perform mitigation analysis and site inspections to validate as-built conditions.
  • Monitor module quality in the fleet and build mechanisms to improve link health.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues during build, commissioning, and handover phases.
  • Maintain documentation, drawings, and asset records for physical network components.
  • Provide feedback to design and operations teams to drive continuous improvement.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
