The Network Development Engineer role at AWS focuses on delivering sustainable and repeatable solutions for next-generation IP networks. The position is part of the Backbone Enterprise and Regional Engineering (BERE) team, which is responsible for the design, implementation, and operations of AWS's global networking infrastructure. Engineers will collaborate with various teams to ensure efficient network operations and support large-scale networking events. This role emphasizes innovation and the development of tools to enhance network performance and reliability.
Requirements
- 1+ years of automation scripting experience using Python, Bash, Shell, and/or Perl.
- 4+ years of experience in a network-focused hands-on technical role working with IP routing protocols and technologies.
- 4+ years of experience developing engineering, deployment, or operations mechanisms to support IP networks.
- 4+ years of experience in a technical on-call capacity, responding to customer impacting events.
- Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, and network security architecture.
- Experience with routers, server load balancers, and firewall vendor platforms such as Cisco, Juniper, and Palo Alto.
- In-depth knowledge of networking and systems technologies.
- Knowledge of network hardware and packet forwarding architectures.
- Possess scripting skills or a desire to learn them, specifically in Python, Perl, or Shell.
Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality network and systems operations, deployments, and scaling.
- Create and implement changes on the network.
- Work closely with automation teams to define scaling tools.
- Lead network projects in areas such as deployment, optimization, and sustaining engineering.
- Provide critical network support to diagnose and resolve large-scale networking events.
- Operate and troubleshoot network routing and performance issues.
- Drive and support innovation across the network infrastructure.
- Collaborate with Network/Infrastructure teams to ensure smooth roll-out of new designs.
- Maintain compliance with networking standards and policies.
- Create and review documentation regarding network implementations and processes.
