The Network Development Engineer role at AWS involves building, deploying, and scaling Amazon's networks across global datacenters. The position is part of the Network Fabric Engineering team, which focuses on ensuring efficient data center operations and connectivity. Engineers will work collaboratively with various teams to deliver high standards of safety and security while optimizing network performance. This role requires a strong foundation in networking and Unix systems engineering to create sustainable solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or PhD with experience in a large-scale networking environment.
  • 1+ years of experience in a network-focused hands-on technical role with IP routing protocols and technologies.
  • 1+ years of Unix/Linux command line experience.
  • Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, and core technologies such as OSPF, BGP, and MPLS.
  • Knowledge of network analysis fundamentals and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong desire to build and ability to multitask.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy network infrastructure across all network fabrics supporting various Amazon services.
  • Scale and automate network operations across multiple global datacenters.
  • Drive the scaling of current network designs to meet customer demand.
  • Create simple, repetitive deployment processes to enhance velocity and quality.
  • Collaborate with internal customers on designs and solutions from concept to production.
  • Create and update network standards to ensure compliance.
  • Implement changes on the network and work with automation teams to define scaling tools.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
