Job description

The Optical Network Development Engineer will join the Core Networking team at AWS, focusing on building, deploying, and scaling networks that support AWS and its customers across global data centers. This role involves working with a diverse team of engineers to ensure the stability and sustainability of next-generation IP networks. The engineer will be responsible for high-quality network operations, troubleshooting, and implementing best practices. The team aims to balance efficiency, performance, and reliability to provide customers with seamless access to their applications and data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science
  • 4+ years experience with the rollout and maintenance of large DWDM Networks and Optical Network Technologies
  • 4+ years of experience with optical planning and modeling tools
  • 4+ years of experience with optical network design and troubleshooting
  • 1+ years of professional development experience with Python or a similar tool for network automation scripting
  • In depth working knowledge of IP Networking fundamentals
  • In depth Unix experience and the ability to script/program in Python or a similar scripting language
  • Knowledge of L2 and L3 routing
  • Expert network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills

Responsibilities

  • Perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, and technology refresh
  • Create and implement changes on the network
  • Work closely with automation teams to define tools for scaling at higher volume
  • Lead network projects in areas such as network sustaining engineering and network optimization
  • Sustain AWS networks by providing critical support to diagnose and resolve large-scale networking events
  • Operate and troubleshoot network routing, interconnectivity, and performance issues
  • Drive and support innovation across the network infrastructure
  • Collaborate with Network/Infrastructure organizations on engineering and configuration standards
  • Ensure compliance with networking toolset standards and policies
  • Deliver simple, sustainable, and repeatable solutions and processes
  • Create and review documentation regarding network implementation and deployments
