Job description

The Design Engineer role at Amazon Extra Large (AMXL) focuses on driving analysis, design, and deployment of high-impact retrofit programs and process re-engineering projects for fulfillment and delivery centers. The AMXL Operations Engineering team aims to innovate and simplify processes while enhancing customer and associate experiences. This position requires a blend of technical and customer-facing skills to manage complex projects from ideation to execution. The team is dedicated to providing best-in-class engineering solutions for heavy and bulky delivery services.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Design/Innovation, research & development, manufacturing, process, industrial engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in management of engineering design projects.
  • Experience leading engineering design projects and interacting with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience designing complex systems for automation in logistics or manufacturing.
  • Experience in AutoCAD 3D.
  • Experience in engineering and estimating material handling and storage systems.
  • Experience modeling or simulating large-scale, high-volume distribution centers.
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Operations, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of system architecture, optimization, and statistical analysis.
  • Experience with complex automated material handling equipment and design-in-safety.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end process design and site layout creation for new business initiatives and process improvement projects.
  • Own the capacity models for First Mile and Middle Mile business units.
  • Determine all resources required for each retrofit project including site layout and equipment specifications.
  • Consolidate all retrofit efforts from change management to post-launch support for each site.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions.
  • Simultaneously manage multiple high visibility projects while effectively communicating with stakeholders.
  • Cross-pollinate best practices between engineering and operations teams.
  • Provide technical leadership for large-scale engineering projects.
  • Lead ergonomic design improvements leveraging safety and ergonomics resources.
  • Drive standardization and documentation of core design and process elements for scalable network growth.
