Job description

As a Software Development Engineer on the OpenSearch team at Amazon, you will tackle technical challenges in distributed systems, data ingestion, and search infrastructure. This role involves translating business requirements into deliverables and developing prototypes in collaboration with technology leaders. You will work with core languages such as Rust, Java, and Python to design and deploy reliable distributed services. This position offers a greenfield opportunity on a newly formed, AI-led team focused on innovative solutions.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards and operations
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and support high throughput, highly available, distributed, multi-tenant, cloud native systems.
  • Produce robust, efficient, and maintainable code primarily in Java and Rust.
  • Lead development and maintenance of key system features for Amazon OpenSearch Service.
  • Design and build scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
  • Work on challenging problems in areas such as data ingestion, auto-scaling, and query optimization.
  • Identify and advocate for operational improvements to reduce maintenance and development costs.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
