We are seeking a Software Development Engineer to design, build, and operate production systems for Alexa's AI runtime. The team focuses on creating infrastructure that enables seamless communication between AI agents and the Alexa platform. This role involves working on various projects, including agent communication frameworks and intelligent request routing. The ideal candidate will thrive in a high-ownership, high-autonomy environment and contribute to the development of scalable systems.

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language
• Experience designing, building, operating, and managing large-scale distributed systems or web services
• Experience in machine learning, data mining, information retrieval, statistics, or natural language processing
• Experience with streaming systems, real-time data pipelines, or event-driven architectures
• Familiarity with agentic frameworks, agent communication protocols, or multi-agent orchestration systems
• Strong operational instincts and experience owning production systems on-call

• Design, implement, and operate distributed systems that power Alexa's AI runtime at scale
• Contribute to the design and implementation of agent platform primitives such as SDKs and communication frameworks
• Build and maintain production-grade services with strong operational health including monitoring and alerting
• Collaborate with partner teams to define API contracts and align on system architecture
• Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to operational excellence
• Drive improvements in developer velocity through local development environments and CI/CD tooling
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team engineering standards and code quality
