Job description

The Network Development Engineer role within the AWS Core Networking team focuses on building, deploying, and scaling Amazon networks across global datacenters. This position involves collaborating with a diverse team of engineers and specialists to ensure the stability and sustainability of next-generation IP networks. The team is dedicated to delivering efficient, reliable, and high-performance networking solutions while maintaining operational excellence. The role emphasizes innovation and the development of simple, sustainable solutions to complex networking challenges.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of automation scripting experience using Python, Bash, Shell, and/or Perl.
  • 4+ years of experience in a network-focused technical role with IP routing protocols and technologies.
  • 4+ years of experience developing engineering, deployment, or operations mechanisms for IP networks.
  • 4+ years of experience in a technical on-call capacity, responding to customer-impacting events.
  • Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, and network security architecture.
  • Experience with networking hardware and packet forwarding architectures.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking and/or systems technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality network and systems operations, deployments, and scaling.
  • Create and implement changes on the network.
  • Lead network projects in areas such as network deployment and optimization.
  • Sustain AWS's next-generation networks by providing critical network support.
  • Operate and troubleshoot network routing and performance issues.
  • Drive and support innovation across the network infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with Network/Systems/Software Engineering teams for smooth rollouts.
  • Maintain standards across the networking toolset and ensure compliance.
  • Deliver simple, sustainable, and repeatable solutions and processes.
  • Create and review documentation regarding network implementations and procedures.
