Job description
The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead the design and development of power and motion control systems for robotic systems at Fauna Robotics, an Amazon company. This role involves shaping the long-term architecture of robotics platforms and ensuring effective collaboration between hardware and software teams. The focus is on creating high-performance, reliable electronics that enable robots to interact seamlessly with humans. The engineer will also mentor junior engineers and drive best practices in electrical engineering.
Requirements
- 10+ years of electrical theory, robotics, controls components, and automated equipment experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 4+ years of motor controls experience including motor starts, variable frequency drives, and DC drives
- Experience developing products for large volume production
- Strong PCB design and layout skills with an understanding of high-power circuits and thermal constraints
- Experience with lithium-ion battery systems and power distribution architectures
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills with experience using oscilloscopes and power analyzers
- Proficiency with embedded system interfaces and experience working with STM32 microcontrollers
- Knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques and compliance standards for robotics systems
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, layout, and validation of PCBs for power distribution and motor drivers
- Architect and optimize power distribution and battery systems for high-performance robots
- Develop and refine lithium-ion battery systems
- Ensure EMI/EMC compliance and signal integrity for high-reliability electronics
- Collaborate with firmware engineers on real-time control strategies
- Work with mechanical engineers to integrate thermal management solutions
- Define the electrical architecture for real-time control and system diagnostics
- Support bring-up, debugging, and testing of prototype robots
- Work with vendors to source high-quality components and oversee production
- Mentor junior engineers and drive design reviews
