Job description
The Hardware Development Engineer role within the RDPI team focuses on designing, developing, and delivering mechanical components and systems for Amazon's next generation of products. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to turn concepts into manufacturable designs that align with customer needs and business requirements. This position requires a strong background in hardware design and validation, as well as proficiency in CAD software. The engineer will also be involved in testing and validating mechanical designs to ensure they meet product specifications.
Requirements
- 4+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems, and systems experience
- Bachelor's degree in robotics, mechanical/mechatronics engineering, systems engineering, or a related field
- Knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD experience and understanding of best practices for part design and advanced assemblies
- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment from prototyping to implementation
Responsibilities
- Deliver mechanical design projects from concept through production, ensuring designs meet functional requirements, cost targets, and manufacturing constraints
- Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications for mechanical components and assemblies
- Conduct engineering analyses including tolerance stack-ups, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Develop and execute test plans to validate mechanical designs against product requirements
- Collaborate with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing partners to integrate mechanical designs with other subsystems
- Identify and resolve technical issues during development and production phases
- Document design decisions, test results, and engineering changes
- Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) activities
