Job description

The Network Development Engineer role within the AWS GCNA Organization focuses on designing and implementing network solutions that ensure efficient connectivity for Amazon's global infrastructure. This position involves collaboration with various teams to develop and deploy networking software tools and standards. Engineers will work on complex problems related to internet traffic management and network optimization. The role emphasizes innovation and proactive problem-solving to meet customer and technology needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or above in computer science or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience with IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols.
  • 8+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RSVP, and ISIS.
  • 8+ years working with major network operating systems such as Cisco IOS and/or Junos.
  • 3+ years of experience with Unix/Linux skills and the ability to script in Python, Perl, or shell.
  • A Masters in Computer Science, MBA, or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Senior or Lead Engineer experience at other organizations is required.
  • Expert-level certifications such as CCIE or JNCIE are a plus.
  • Expert-level scripting and automation skills in a network environment are required.
  • Software development/programming skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design network designs, services, and deployment procedures that meet various requirements.
  • Collaborate with leadership to decide on projects that support the team's mission.
  • Create and defend High Level Design (HLD) and Low Level Design (LLD) documents.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to influence technology roadmaps.
  • Construct and test solutions while providing support to deployment teams.
  • Automate deployment processes to increase quality and velocity.
  • Manage customer interactions during problem resolution and operate efficiently under pressure.
  • Travel to data center/network sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed.
