Job description

Apple's Health Sensing team is looking for a versatile Machine Learning Engineer to create innovative health algorithms that provide valuable insights to users. The role involves integrating classical machine learning, signal processing, and generative AI techniques to enhance health and wellness features for Apple Watch users. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, transforming ideas into prototypes and products while addressing data challenges. This position encompasses the entire algorithm lifecycle, from data strategy to deployment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong foundation in machine learning, statistics, signal processing, or applied mathematics for real-world sensing problems.
  • Experience applying modern AI techniques, including generative AI and agentic AI, to accelerate algorithm development.
  • Proficiency in Python for algorithm development and optimization.
  • Experience working with incomplete, noisy, or limited datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Develop next-generation health algorithms that deliver meaningful insights to users.
  • Work across the full algorithm lifecycle including data strategy, modeling, evaluation, optimization, and deployment.
  • Rapidly prototype and evaluate multiple approaches based on experimental results.
  • Own algorithm development from early exploration through validation and integration.
  • Develop algorithms for physiological sensing using multi-modal data.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
