Job description
The Health Sensing Hardware team is seeking a highly-motivated optical engineer to develop next-generation optical health sensors for devices like the Apple Watch and AirPods. The role involves leveraging expertise in optical system design, modeling, and fabrication while analyzing user data to enhance sensor performance. Collaboration with research scientists and hardware engineers is essential, as is the ability to communicate findings to cross-functional teams and management. This position requires a strong focus on data analysis and the design of optical sensors for health applications.
Requirements
- PhD in Biomedical or Optical Engineering.
- BS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience.
- 5+ years of industry experience in a related field.
- Strong optical simulation skills using commercial ray-tracing packages.
- Proven experience in designing optical sensors for health sensing applications.
- Demonstrated experience with driving sensor development from bench-top to high-volume production.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent documentation skills.
- Previous experience managing a team of engineers.
Responsibilities
- Develop the optical design of health sensors through simulations and prototype assessments.
- Analyze user data to infer trends and improve sensor performance.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers.
- Deliver detailed assessments and design evaluations to leadership and cross-functional partners.
- Conduct user studies to understand skin-sensor interactions.
