Job description
The Apple Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) is responsible for leading the development and implementation of high precision mechanical manufacturing processes across Apple's global supply base. This role involves close collaboration with various teams, including Industrial Design and Product Design, to ensure manufacturing solutions meet quality, cost, and environmental goals. The MDE will bring creativity to Apple's manufacturing approach and contribute to the creation of end-to-end manufacturing solutions for hardware enclosures. The position requires frequent communication with suppliers and stakeholders to align on manufacturing strategies and optimize processes.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical product development, manufacturing engineering, tooling engineering, high precision fabrication, or similar roles.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial engineering, or related fields.
- Ability to travel 25% or more is required.
- Understanding of core principles of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Hands-on approach to engineering and problem-solving.
- Strong ability to influence using clear and concise communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate product and industrial design goals to understand dimensional, cosmetic, and functional priorities.
- Collaborate with Global Supply Managers and manufacturing suppliers to align on a manufacturing development strategy.
- Identify and validate suitable fabrication equipment and processes to meet Apple design and operational requirements.
- Develop and document processes including all parameters, consumables, and secondary operation requirements.
- Conduct process optimization using data-driven and hands-on approaches.
- Communicate ongoing process development status to cross-functional teams.
- Lead development in areas such as CNC machining, surface finishing, glass processing, assembly, and painting.
