The Apple iPhone Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) is responsible for driving the development of key mechanical manufacturing processes across Apple's global supply base. This role involves close collaboration with various teams, including Industrial Design and Product Design, to provide end-to-end manufacturing solutions. The MDE will focus on defining best-in-class processes, developing and documenting manufacturing parameters, and leading process development in areas such as CNC machining and assembly. This position requires hands-on mechanical expertise and a strong ability to analyze data for process improvement.

• 3+ years of full-time mechanical manufacturing experience is required.
• A BS, MS, or PhD in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering is preferred.
• Demonstrated hands-on mechanical ability is necessary.
• Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills are required.
• Experience with highly cosmetic parts and in a manufacturing environment of consumer electronics or consumer plastic/sheet metal products is a plus.
• The ability to be a self-starter and define engineering tasks to meet project objectives is essential.

• Define best-in-class processes to meet all Apple design and operational requirements.
• Develop and document processes including all parameters, consumables, and secondary operation requirements.
• Work with Global Supply Managers to establish supply chain requirements utilizing selected equipment and manufacturing suppliers.
• Provide leadership at manufacturing sites during development and product production ramp.
• Use data to drive process decisions, including basic data analysis and statistical process control.
• Identify, research, develop, and qualify premier equipment manufacturers and suppliers.
• Lead process development and have expertise in CNC machining, surface finishing, glass processing, assembly, or painting.
