Job description

In this role at Apple, you will be integral to a chip design effort that significantly impacts the delivery of functional products to millions of customers. You will work within a team focused on the functional validation of CPUs, identifying logic design and circuit bugs. Your responsibilities will include developing CPU test content and defining new test cases for innovative CPU designs. Additionally, you will drive silicon bring-up efforts and collaborate closely with various teams to ensure comprehensive validation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.
  • Academic coursework in CPU architecture.
  • Experience in programming in C or C++ and scripting in Python or Perl.
  • Understanding of CPU architecture including instruction sets, pipelines, caches, and memory subsystems.
  • Experience with assembly programming, preferably ARM ISA.
  • Knowledge of operating system fundamentals including kernel execution, privilege levels, memory management, and virtual machines.
  • Good understanding of the logic design and verification process.
  • Background in silicon bring-up and system debug experience is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with CPU RTL and DV teams to understand changes to CPU designs and engineer test content for new CPU features.
  • Create CPU validation test plans to ensure all key features are covered.
  • Develop software workloads to stress test the CPU and integrate these into existing validation environments.
  • Help maintain and improve the random test generator by adding support for new CPU architectural and microarchitectural features.
  • Drive the bring-up and execution of silicon validation tools in pre-silicon (FPGAs) and post-silicon (development boards).
  • Debug functional silicon failures closely with Design and DV counterparts.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
