Job description
The Health Sensing Hardware team is seeking a motivated optical engineer to develop next-generation optical health sensors for devices like the Apple Watch and AirPods. The role involves leveraging expertise in optical system design, modeling, and fabrication, while analyzing user data to enhance sensor performance. Collaboration with research scientists and hardware engineers is essential to improve skin-sensor interactions. The candidate will also be responsible for delivering concise design assessments to cross-functional partners and senior management.
Requirements
- BS in Biomedical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
- PhD in Biomedical or Optical Engineering.
- 2+ years of industry experience in a related field.
- Strong optical simulation skills using commercial ray-tracing packages.
- Experience with optical design for high-volume manufacturing.
- Knowledge of optical system design for wearable sensing applications.
- Familiarity with the fundamentals of light transport in biological tissue.
- Conversant in cross-functional aspects of system design.
Responsibilities
- Develop the optical design of health sensors through simulations and prototype assessments.
- Analyze user studies and sensor performance data to infer trends and dependencies.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers.
- Deliver detailed assessments and design evaluations to leadership and cross-functional partners.
- Conduct hands-on optical system prototyping.
