Job description

The MEMS Module Engineer will join Apple's Microphone Engineering team, focusing on the design and optimization of MEMS sensors. This role involves overseeing vendor developments, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring scalable production paths for new technologies. The engineer will collaborate with a diverse team of experts to analyze and model new concepts, developing specifications for new devices. Strong communication skills are essential for presenting findings and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • A BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or Acoustics, with a focus on sensors or volume manufacturing of micro-devices.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with MEMS sensor devices from development to mass production.
  • Proficient in the theory of operation, fabrication, packaging, and design trade-offs of MEMS sensors and/or actuators.
  • Experience in ASIC architecture, design, characterization, validating, and debugging of MEMS sensors.
  • Fundamental knowledge in physics, mechanical, electrical, and material science engineering relevant for MEMS fabrication.
  • Expertise in signal path simulation, data collection, and statistical analysis tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel are required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee various vendors' MEMS developments from a process perspective.
  • Troubleshoot newly discovered issues on mature technologies.
  • Drive root cause determination and assist vendors with process integration for new technologies.
  • Analyze and model new concepts collaboratively with the Microphone Engineering team.
  • Develop specifications and criteria for new devices at various stages of development.
  • Communicate work status, risks, and mitigation strategies to cross-functional teams.
  • Develop new simulations, models, test structures, experiments, and characterization strategies.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
