Job description

The Materials Reliability Engineer will be part of Apple's Materials Reliability Group, focusing on assessing material-level reliability risks for new product designs. This role involves deep investigation and collaboration to ensure enduring product quality and exceptional user experiences. The engineer will drive test development, perform failure analysis, and advocate for material reliability improvements. A strong understanding of material properties and their impact on product performance is essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field such as Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science with 3+ years of industry experience.
  • Understanding of how material properties, processing, and structure impact product performance.
  • Experience working in or collaborating with a lab environment focused on understanding root causes of material failures.
  • Experience using statistical data analysis and the ability to communicate results clearly.
  • Ability to identify failure root causes and potential corrective actions using multiple data sources.
  • Ability to travel internationally without restriction as needed, less than 20% of the year.
  • M.S. or PhD in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Familiarity with failure characterization techniques and methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Assess material-level reliability risks of new product designs.
  • Work with materials engineering and process teams to perform failure analysis.
  • Push for design and process mitigations and controls.
  • Develop new tests and methodologies for replicating and validating complex failure modes.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure material reliability improvements.
