Job description

Apple's Data Analytics team is seeking a motivated distributed systems engineer to enhance their device telemetry platform. The role involves building services and applications that analyze and interpret data from Apple devices to improve products and services. The engineer will work closely with data scientists and engineers to design and iterate on stream processing and ingestion pipelines. This position offers high visibility and impact within the Apple Software Engineering organization.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Computer Science, equivalent field or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • Experience working on large distributed systems, ideally on a public cloud platform like AWS
  • Extensive experience with container-based orchestration tools such as Kubernetes or EC2
  • Practical knowledge of queue and stream consumers like Flink or Kinesis
  • Exposure to profiling and optimization of scale compute and data pipelines
  • Proficiency in writing and maintaining large-scale Iceberg or partitioned Parquet
  • Commitment to continuous integration and continuous deployment practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated with strong creative and critical thinking capabilities
  • Experience with big data query engines such as Presto, Trino, or Athena

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to capture and refine requirements
  • Design, build, and iterate on stream processing and ingestion pipelines
  • Implement design decisions and validate their effectiveness
  • Analyze and produce insights from diagnostic and usage data
  • Work on data collection, compute, and query and visualization interfaces
