Job description
The Apple iPhone Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) is responsible for driving the development of key mechanical manufacturing processes across Apple's global supply base. This hands-on role involves collaboration with various teams, including Industrial Design and Product Design, to provide end-to-end manufacturing solutions. The MDE will focus on defining best-in-class processes, developing and documenting manufacturing parameters, and leading process development in areas such as CNC machining and assembly. The position requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership to ensure quality and yield requirements are met.
Requirements
- 3+ years of full-time mechanical manufacturing experience is required.
- A BS, MS, or PhD in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering is preferred.
- Demonstrated hands-on mechanical ability is necessary.
- Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills are required.
- Experience with highly cosmetic parts and in a manufacturing environment of consumer electronics or consumer plastic/sheet metal products is a plus.
- The ability to define engineering tasks to meet project objectives and quickly learn about new processes is essential.
Responsibilities
- Define best-in-class processes to meet all Apple design and operational requirements.
- Develop and document processes including all parameters, consumables, and secondary operation requirements.
- Work with Global Supply Managers to establish supply chain requirements utilizing selected equipment and manufacturing suppliers.
- Provide leadership at manufacturing sites during development and product production ramp.
- Use data to drive process decisions, including basic data analysis and statistical process control.
- Identify, research, develop, and qualify premier equipment manufacturers and suppliers.
- Define part tolerance and specifications by demonstrating process capability to Product Designers and Industrial Designers.
- Lead process development and have expertise in CNC machining, surface finishing, glass processing, assembly, or painting.
