Apple's Hardware Technology organization is looking for a Senior Engineering Leader to drive the use of computational simulation in designing and validating advanced sensing hardware. This role combines expertise in mechanical simulation with a strategic vision for automation and AI/ML applications. The leader will guide a team of computational engineers to deliver insights and design recommendations that enhance product performance and reliability. The position involves creating robust designs through rigorous systems engineering and sophisticated automation workflows.
Requirements
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computational Mechanics, or a closely related technical field.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical simulation, focusing on miniaturized or high-precision components.
- 5+ years in a technical leadership or management role, with experience leading engineering teams and defining technical strategy.
- Deep expertise in various simulation techniques, including FEA theory and proficiency with commercial software such as Abaqus, ANSYS, or COMSOL.
- Strong foundation in systems engineering principles and ability to create robust hardware designs validated through simulation.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills with a proven ability to influence design decisions.
- Experience with multi-physics simulations relevant to sensor transduction.
- Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations.
- Experience in a consumer electronics or high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Advanced programming skills, preferably in Python, with experience in developing custom engineering tools.
- Experience with cloud-based High-Performance Computing (HPC) for large-scale simulations.
- Proven experience applying machine learning techniques in a simulation or design context.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a specialized team of computational mechanics and automation experts.
- Establish best practices for simulation and analysis within the team.
- Create robust, validated designs using rigorous systems engineering principles.
- Architect sophisticated automation workflows to accelerate the design process.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners in sensor design, materials science, and product development.
- Deliver critical insights and design recommendations to ensure product performance and reliability.
- Integrate deep Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with AI/ML methodologies to enhance predictive accuracy.
- Solve complex multi-physics challenges related to sensing technologies.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
