Job description

The watchOS Systems team is seeking a senior software engineer to shape the future of Apple Watch by building and optimizing foundational software for performance and power efficiency. This role involves conducting research and prototyping new technologies that will influence future hardware and software features. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative engineer passionate about the intersection of hardware and software, tackling complex challenges alongside experts in various fields. Responsibilities will include architecting core OS features and diagnosing power issues while maintaining tools for performance analysis.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of industry experience.
  • Deep technical understanding and hands-on experience with software development and lifecycle management.
  • Experience with low-level OS systems, such as kernel, Darwin, or drivers.
  • Deep experience with power and performance measurement and investigation techniques.
  • Solid computer science fundamentals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with a technical team.
  • Experience defining and contributing to application or systems architecture.
  • Ability to work with technology partners at all levels of the stack, from hardware to applications.
  • Experience in additional technical areas, such as Graphics, UI, or networking.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, especially with ambiguous or undefined problems.

Responsibilities

  • Build and optimize foundational software for device performance and power efficiency.
  • Conduct investigative research and prototype new technologies.
  • Collaborate closely with Performance, Power, OS, and Hardware experts.
  • Define and implement critical system-level functionality.
  • Diagnose and resolve significant power issues in other teams' code.
  • Build and maintain tools for modeling and analyzing performance and memory.
