Job description

The Mechanical Engineer role within the PPO-Test team at Apple focuses on the design, development, and deployment of test systems for touch, sensing, and display modules. This collaborative team works closely with product design, optics, electrical, and software engineering to deliver innovative products. The position requires a strong background in mechanical system design and offers opportunities to contribute across various product lines. The engineer will be responsible for driving the end-to-end mechanical design of functional test systems.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of mechanical system design experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with 3D CAD software such as NX, SolidWorks, or Pro/E.
  • Experience with drafting and GD&T practices.
  • Experience with analysis techniques such as FEA, tolerance stackup, error budget, or RCA.
  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience, or MS in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of opto-mechanical system design experience.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the end-to-end mechanical design of stand-alone functional test systems.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams for test system development and deployment.
  • Support the product design teams across the entire gamut of Apple products and new technologies.
  • Craft stand-alone functional test stations.
  • Design high precision mechanisms and motion control systems.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
