Job description

The Runtime Tools team at Apple is seeking developers who are passionate about memory and resource optimization to create innovative tools for software and hardware on Apple's platforms. This role involves working closely with performance optimization engineers and various runtime teams to enhance symbolication services and memory usage introspection. The team focuses on runtime analysis techniques and develops command-line tools that improve the debugging experience across Apple's ecosystem. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in profiling, optimization, and debugging, as well as a passion for learning and collaboration.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of macOS or iOS development experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Expertise in C or C++, with proficiency in Swift and/or Objective-C
  • Strong operating systems background, understanding allocators, virtual memory, and process lifecycle
  • Prior engineering management experience
  • Experience in computer science or a related field commensurate with a 4-year degree

Responsibilities

  • Work with Apple's internal performance optimization engineers and runtime teams to provide symbolication services
  • Introspect memory usage across Apple's ecosystem to identify optimization opportunities
  • Drive development projects independently while collaborating with other teams to solve engineering challenges
  • Facilitate respectful and solution-focused technical discussions
  • Review code with attention to detail, reasoning through edge cases and security implications

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
