The role is part of the Visual Intelligence Technology team at Apple, focusing on enhancing user experiences through advanced machine learning and deep learning techniques. The team leverages cutting-edge technologies such as Visual Search and Large Language Models to improve query understanding and ranking in search functionalities. This position involves developing sophisticated machine learning models and conducting applied research to transition innovative AI research into production-ready technologies. Collaboration with researchers and data scientists is essential to fine-tune and evaluate domain-specific models for various applications.

• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, Data Science or related field
• 7+ years of experience in machine learning, deep learning, information retrieval, natural language processing or data mining
• 5+ years of experience in prompt engineering, fine-tuning, evaluating, and developing data collection/annotation/management tooling for LLMs
• Experience being a tech lead and successfully leading a team to ship software to users
• Excellent knowledge and practical skills in designing ML platforms, architectures or algorithms
• Strong interpersonal skills to work independently as well as in a team
• Experience with iOS / MacOS development
• Experience with optimizing performance on resource-constrained devices
• Experience with relevant deep learning software packages such as Keras, TensorFlow, or PyTorch
• Experience with graphics development including OpenGL, Metal, Vulkan or neural engine integration/optimization
• Experience with OpenGL and/or OpenCL programming

• Develop large scale machine learning and deep learning models to improve query understanding and ranking.
• Create fundamental building blocks needed for Artificial Intelligence applications.
• Utilize word embeddings and deep learning techniques to assess the quality of matches.
• Implement online learning to adapt quickly to changes in data.
