The role is part of the Visual Intelligence Technology team at Apple, focusing on enhancing user experiences through advanced machine learning and deep learning techniques. The team leverages cutting-edge technologies such as Visual Search and Large Language Models to improve query understanding and ranking. The position involves developing sophisticated machine learning models and conducting applied research to transition innovative generative AI technologies into production. Collaboration with researchers and data scientists is essential to fine-tune and evaluate domain-specific models for Apple's AI-powered products.

• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, Data Science or related field
• 7+ years of experience in machine learning, deep learning, information retrieval, natural language processing or data mining
• 5+ years of experience in prompt engineering, fine-tuning, evaluating, and developing data collection/annotation/management tooling for LLMs
• Experience being a tech lead and successfully leading a team to ship software to users
• Excellent knowledge and practical skills in designing ML platforms, architectures or algorithms
• Strong interpersonal skills to work independently as well as in a team
• Experience with iOS / MacOS development
• Experience with optimizing performance on resource constrained devices
• Experience with relevant deep learning software packages such as Keras, Tensorflow, or PyTorch
• Experience with graphics development including OpenGL, Metal, Vulkan or neural engine integration/optimization
• Experience with OpenGL and/or OpenCL programming

• Conduct large scale machine learning and deep learning to improve query understanding and ranking of search.
• Develop sophisticated machine learning models using word embeddings and deep learning techniques.
• Utilize online learning to quickly adapt to changes in user data and signals.
• Implement natural language processing techniques to understand user queries.
• Combine information from various sources to provide optimal search results.
