Job description

The role is part of the Visual Intelligence Technology team at Apple, focusing on enhancing user experiences through advanced technologies like Visual Search and large language models (LLMs). The team aims to innovate in Visual Intelligence and develop multimodal foundation models for future applications. The position involves exploring large-scale models to understand complex visual scenes and collaborating with researchers to apply generative AI in practical technologies. Candidates will contribute to building training pipelines and evaluating domain-specific LLMs for various AI-powered products.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, Data Science or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in machine learning, deep learning, information retrieval, natural language processing or data mining
  • Experience being a tech lead and successfully leading a team to ship software to users
  • Excellent knowledge and practical skills in designing ML platforms, architectures or algorithms
  • Strong interpersonal skills able to work independently as well as in a team
  • 3+ years of experience in prompt engineering, fine-tuning, evaluating, and developing data collection/annotation/management tooling for LLMs
  • Experience with relevant deep learning software packages such as Keras, Tensorflow, or PyTorch

Responsibilities

  • Explore how large-scale models can understand and reason about complex visual scenes
  • Design and build large-scale training pipelines for machine learning models
  • Perform experiments at scale to evaluate model performance
  • Collaborate with researchers and data scientists to develop and fine-tune domain-specific LLMs
  • Conduct applied research to transition groundbreaking generative AI research into production-ready technologies

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
