Job description

The Apple Neural Engine (ANE) team is seeking an experienced embedded firmware engineer to develop and maintain low-level firmware for a specialized hardware accelerator designed for machine learning workloads. This position involves working with real-time operating systems and hardware abstraction layers to enhance AI/ML inference acceleration. The role offers the opportunity to collaborate in a creative environment and tackle complex challenges across various Apple products. Candidates will contribute to the design and implementation of firmware that drives next-generation features.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of related industry experience in embedded firmware development.
  • Strong C/C++ programming skills in resource-constrained environments.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems and bare-metal programming.
  • Understanding of computer architecture and hardware interfaces.
  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with neural network accelerators or GPUs and knowledge of machine learning inference optimization.
  • Background in power management for embedded systems.
  • Experience with SoC bringup.
  • Attention to detail and code quality.
  • Self-motivated with excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement firmware for neural network accelerator hardware in Apple SoCs, focusing on scalability and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including platform architecture and driver teams, to bring new hardware silicon to market.
  • Design and implement firmware to deliver next-generation features for Apple products, including defining requirements and specifications with other teams.
  • Cultivate a culture of learning and collaboration, encouraging innovation across the organization.
