Job description

As a capacity engineer in Apple's Machine Learning Platform Technologies organization, you will focus on building tools and implementing processes to optimize the operation and growth of the infrastructure for large-scale ML training and inference workloads. You will collaborate with infrastructure engineers and ML teams to ensure effective use of compute resources and influence strategic procurement decisions. This role requires translating complex data into actionable insights and recommendations. You will also work on cross-functional projects that span ML research, infrastructure, and finance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Data Science, Economics or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience developing ML models to surface insights and drive solutions.
  • Proficiency in scripting, automation or modeling tools.
  • Experience crafting robust queries over large-scale, multi-source data.
  • Familiarity with accelerator utilization patterns across ML training and inference.
  • Familiarity with cloud compute, storage, network and services.

Responsibilities

  • Build tools to ensure optimal operation of ML infrastructure.
  • Conduct analysis to support infrastructure growth.
  • Implement processes for effective use of compute resources.
  • Shape strategic procurement decisions in collaboration with teams.
  • Translate complex data into easy-to-understand actionable insights.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
