Job description

Apple's Biophotonics group is seeking an engineer to focus on system integration for novel opto-electronics sensor modules. The role involves ensuring that prototype systems are built and function as expected. The ideal candidate will work with a dynamic team to tackle complex challenges and contribute to innovative product development. This position offers the opportunity to impact millions of customers through groundbreaking technology.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in design, systems integration, hardware validation, or a related engineering role involving complex electronic or electro-optical systems
  • Experience with debugging and troubleshooting issues with complex systems
  • Experience with laboratory instrumentation including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, optical power meters, lock-in amplifiers, and precision current/voltage sources
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python or Matlab preferred) for test automation, data acquisition, and analysis
  • Demonstrated experience with optical or photonic systems, including photodetectors, laser sources (VCSEL, LED, IR), imaging sensors, or LiDAR/proximity sensing technologies
  • Experience with wearable health devices or medical technologies
  • Solid understanding of analog and mixed-signal circuit design principles as they relate to sensor front-end performance
  • Familiarity with embedded firmware concepts and the ability to collaborate effectively with firmware engineers during system-level debug
  • Experience developing or maintaining automated test equipment (ATE) or custom bench test fixtures
  • Detail-oriented and organized with excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Work on system integration for novel opto-electronics sensor modules
  • Ensure that prototype systems are built and working as expected
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot complex electronics systems
  • Contribute to the development of innovative products that delight customers
  • Maintain automated test equipment or custom bench test fixtures

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage.
