Job description

The role is part of Apple's Platform Architecture group, focusing on developing forward-looking prototype systems that integrate hardware and software into a unified system. The team creates 'livable prototypes' that are complete product concepts for real-world use. You will collaborate with engineers across Apple to design system architectures and prepare the necessary software components. This position requires a blend of creativity and technical expertise to turn revolutionary ideas into tangible technology experiences.

Requirements

  • BS in CS, CE, EECS, or similar engineering degree
  • 10+ years of industry experience
  • Experience in design of computer systems
  • Experience in C/C++
  • Understanding of common hardware interfaces such as PCI, UART, I2C, SPI, or USB
  • Exposure to low-level system software such as operating systems, bootloaders, and device drivers
  • MS or PhD in CS, CE, EECS, or similar engineering degree
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers, both hardware and firmware
  • Familiarity with ARM architecture, Cortex-A and Cortex-M profiles

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the overall system design of prototypes from top-level diagrams to schematic reviews
  • Collaborate with software engineering partners to prepare the OS, bootstrap, and device drivers for projects
  • Work with electrical engineers and mechanical engineers on hardware bringup and debugging after fabrication
  • Read and understand block diagrams, schematics, and data sheets

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
