This role requires a technical, hands-on leader with expertise in large-scale distributed systems and data platform engineering. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering teams and partner organizations to design, develop, and deliver platform capabilities. The focus is on building advanced query and indexing capabilities, core platform libraries, and data integration services.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of industry experience, including 3+ years of management experience leading software engineering teams.
  • Strong software design, problem solving, and debugging skills with hands-on experience in distributed systems or large-scale data infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Scala, Python, Go, Swift, or Java.
  • Experience building or operating data lake, lakehouse, or large-scale analytics platforms.
  • Proven track record of shipping high-quality, production-grade services and platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt content for diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with indexing and search technologies such as Apache Lucene or Elasticsearch.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and managed services on AWS or other cloud platforms.
  • Experience with data governance, access control, and multi-tenant platform design.
  • Exposure to GenAI or ML platform engineering, including vector databases or LLM-based tooling.
  • Passion for high-quality code, tests, CI/CD, documentation, and production services.
  • Experience successfully adapting and applying Scrum/Agile development methodologies.
  • Ability to cultivate an environment that emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage difficult situations in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a world-class engineering team in building foundational infrastructure for Apple's security data platform.
  • Design and develop solutions that enable mission-critical capabilities across the organization.
  • Collaborate with peer engineering teams and partner organizations to ensure successful delivery of platform capabilities.
  • Drive a long-term technical vision while executing near-term results.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence within the team.
  • Continuously improve platform reliability, performance, and scalability.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
